LEATHERHEAD stunned Billericay Town to come from behind and progress to the FA Cup second round in front of a record attendance of 3,400.

Jack Midson scored twice and Sammy Moore once for the Tanners to down Glenn Tamplin’s men in the replay and set up a tie with Wycombe Wanderers – 3-1 winners on the night.

Town were strong favourites for the match, against a Leatherhead side who had been struggling in the Isthmian Premier League.

There was little to separate the side in the opening 10 minutes, with Robbie Evans’ runs down the right channel causing the Tanners defence some problems.

But it was Town’s top scorer that almost brought the breakthrough.

A ball down the right set Jake Robinson away, although his low effort was palmed away low to his right by Zaki Oualah.

Town were getting into their stride. Louie Theophanous struck a terrific half volley inches past the near post with 15 minutes on the clock.

The Tanners grew into the game, with Alan Julian called into action for the first time on 25 minutes. Jermaine Pennant was caught dawdling in midfield and D’Sean Theobalds bore down on goal and forced the stopper into a neat save down to his right hand side.

Several corners by visiting player/manager Sammy Moore caused chaos in the home penalty box, although the danger was cleared.

Billericay were playing right on the last man, with the home forwards caught offside numerous times to the frustration of the home supporters.

Defences were coming out on top, Rob Swaine winning header after header in the middle of Town’s back three.

But it remained goalless at the halfway point.

Ricky Modeste, fresh from his international debut with Grenada, and Danny Waldren were introduced at the break but it was the Tanners that almost broke the deadlock.

Awarded a free-kick on the cusp of the penalty area, Moore sent a free-kick inches wide of the far post.

Town needed a spark and it arrived on the hour mark.

Theophanous fed the run of Robinson and the forward blasted across the face of goal for Cunnington to tap home.

Not disheartened, Theobalds drilled wide for Leatherhead after some terrific approach play, with Lee Minshull superbly halted by Julian.

But then the Tanners breakthrough moment.

Jack Midson, a scorer in the first game, climbed highest after pandemonium in the home penalty area to level the scores with 22 minutes remaining.

Tempers started to fray, with Danny Waldren escaping a red card after a push on Midson.

But Leatherhead did get the second goal their play deserved. Swaine was dismissed for a second bookable offence and Midson made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Moore wrapped up the result for a rampant Leatherhead in the final moments.

Billericay Town: Julian, Chambers (Waldren 46’), Foley, Konchesky, Swaine, Deering (Bricknell 65’), Pennant (Modeste 46’), Evans, Robinson, Cunnington, Theophanous
