GREAT Wakering Rovers humbled Hullbridge Sports as they romped to a 7-1 win in the Essex Senior League to climb to fifth.

Darren Manning was looking for his first points in charge of Sports, but Wakering were a touch above the league’s bottom side.

Iain O’Connell’s team were rampant in the first half and it didn’t take long for the breakthrough to arrive.

Aaron Russell scored the first with just five minutes on the clock, and that advantage was doubled less than 10 minutes later.

A defensive slip at the back allowed Billy Johnson a run at goal and he made no mistake.

Richmond was on target from the penalty spot with half of the first period still to play, getting another shortly after the interval from the penalty spot.

Ollie Miller got one back but three late strike, including a treble for Richmond and an injury-time goal from Scott Pethers completed the scoring.

Basildon United remain in touch with the leaders after a narrow 1-0 win against Ilford.

A stunning strike from Luke Hornsley opened the scoring for the afternoon, with the Ilford goalkeeper left clutching at straws.

And that was enough for the Bees.

Southend Manor were 3-2 winners against Tower Hamlets, with Lee Delf getting a brace for Adam Peek's team.

The other goal came from Bayley Newell.
