SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown was fuming with his players following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Portsmouth.
The Shrimpers boss saw Nile Ranger miss a penalty before Brett Pitman headed home the only goal of the game for the hosts.
And Brown was not impressed by Blues’ display.
“Overall we didn’t do enough in the final third and it just wasn’t good enough,” said the 58-year-old.
“We think we’re better than what we are and quite a few of them need a reality check.
“That reality check will come when they’re not playing for us, it’s as simple as that.
“We didn’t stop crosses coming into our box and we paid the price for that in the end too “We didn’t do our job properly.”
The defeat, which was the Shrimpers’ first in the league during November since 2009, sent them down to 14th in the League One standings.
