BOWERS & Pitsea crushed Cheshunt 4-0 to stay in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Rob Small’s team were firm favourites to beat lowly Cheshunt, with all the early pressure coming from the hosts.

Opportunities arrived for Ben Sartain and Johnny Ashman but neither troubled the goalkeeper.

But the dominant force were to take the lead.

Just shy of 30 minutes, James Thomas and Jamie Dicks combined for Lewis Manor who headed emphatically into the corner.

And one became two five minutes later. Martyn Stokes nodded a recycled corner back across goal and Fahad Nyanja was on hand to tap into an empty goal.

Nyanja was inches away from doubling the lead from a fine Manor cross, while Sartain was then kept out by away stopper Montel Joseph.

Bowers were on fire, and began the second half in barnstorming fashion.

After four minutes, Adalberto Pinto’s cross was met by Martyn Stokes once again, with the defender again combining with Nyanja who had the easy task from close range.

Centre-half Martyn Stokes was enjoying an excellent game and he added his name to the scoresheet with more than 30 minutes to play.

The defender hurled himself at a free-kick to make it 4-0.

Nyanja missed a chance to complete a hat-trick when his late penalty was saved but the game was over long ago.
