BOWERS & Pitsea battled back against Brentwood Town to take all three points and keep the pressure on leaders AFC Hornchurch.

Lewis Manor netted twice with Callum Leahy also on target for on-form Bowers.

Bowers had their eye on top spot come 5pm but faced a tough trip against a Brentwood side in need of points at the end of the table.

And the home team struck after just six minutes. James Pugsley took advantage of a James Thomas slip to strike at goal and although Callum Chafer was equal to the effort he couldn’t hold onto the shot. That left Matt Price an easy task from the rebound.

Bowers created nothing in the next 15 minutes before bursting into life midway through the half. Seconds after Manor hit the crossbar he got his goal.

Ben Sartain’s shot found the run of the striker and he turned it beyond the home goalkeeper.

The rest of the half was evenly contested, although Fahad Nyanja did have the ball in the net for Bowers only for the assistant referee to flag the winger offside.

But on the stroke of half-time Bowers were in front. Seconds after Leahy had seen a shot saved, he scored his first goal since returning to the club.

Lewis Clark’s throw was flicked into the danger zone by John Easterford and Leahy blasted home after some penalty area pinball.

The second half was an even affair, although Bowers did have a man advantage for the final 15 minutes.

Goalscorer Price was given a second yellow card for obstructing Chafer and Bowers took advantage late on.

Manor scored in injury-time to complete an excellent afternoon's work.
