DANNY Waldren believes the moment Billericay Town believe they have won the Isthmian Premier League is the moment they will come unstuck.

The combative midfielder has been a key player for Town this season and has helped them to a strong league position with more than half their fixtures still remaining.

Billericay lie five points behind leaders Dulwich Hamlet but have seven games in hand on the Londoners, following Saturday’s postponement against Harrow Borough.

Town will be hoping to return to action at Dorking Wanderers tonight although the game is already in doubt after the Surrey side played on it on Saturday.

But Waldren says Billericay can only prepare the same way as they bid to close the gap at the summit.

“We need games but it’s catch-22,” he said. “We haven’t played games and we want to play but we will want a rest when all the games start coming at once in the weeks ahead.

“It is one of those things you cannot control and it is disappointing. The pitches that cut up badly can make games a leveller as well. I believe we are the best team in the league but on some pitches can do anything.

“I try to look at these things positively and we are professional enough to keep our bodies right.

“Mentally we must be ready. Things are well set for us but if the points aren’t on the board it is not done. People will think it’s done but if we have that mentality we will come unstuck.”

And Waldren is wary of 16th-placed Dorking, who are unbeaten in their last six matches, after 17th-placed Merstham won 2-1 at Dulwich on Saturday.

“Dulwich didn’t do well at the weekend and it proves that any team in this division can cause problems. People expect big wins for us but it doesn’t work that way.

“Dorking will work hard and put their heart and soul into it. We must combat that.”
