MAX Crumpton admitted Harlequins was always a club he wanted to play for again after sealing his return to the club.

The former King John School pupil, who enjoyed a loan spell with Harlequins in the 2013/14 season, has completed a move to the Premiership side from Bristol.

And Crumpton, who has signed a contract until the summer of 2020, is looking forward to making his first appearance for the club having failed to feature during his initial stint.

Crumpton, 24, said: “Harlequins is a club that I have always wanted to go back to play for.

“The move happened really quickly and I’m glad to be back.

“My loan spell with Harlequins was really enjoyable.

“I went in as injury cover and got on really well with the boys.

“I’m also pleased to be back in the Premiership, which is what you always strive for.”

Crumpton, who grew up in Hadleigh, was tipped for a big future in the sport when he impressed on the pitch while at the King John School and he later went on to join Westcliff Rugby Club.

Moves to Premiership giants Saracens and Harlequins followed before Crumpton completed a switch to Bristol in the summer of 2014.

During his time at Ashton Gate, Crumpton played a key role as Bristol won promotion to English rugby’s top flight.

But Bristol’s stay in the Premiership was only to last a solitary season, as Bristol dropped back into the Championship at the end of last term.

However, Crumpton says he is leaving Bristol with some positive memories.

Crumpton, who plays at hooker, added: “I really enjoyed playing for the club.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and it was particularly good when we were in the Premiership.

“It was unbelievable when we beat Bath last year and that is definitely something I will remember from my time at Bristol.”

Harlequins are currently ninth in the Premiership standings.

And while Crumpton, who has earned international honours with England at under-16, under-18 and under-20 level, is eager to help the Twickenham Stoop-based club climb the league table, he knows it will be a tough task to break into the team.

Crumpton admitted: “I’ve got to keep moving forward and working hard.

“I need to make sure I take my chances when they come.”
