BILLERICAY Town were pegged back by Met Police in an exciting 2-2 draw at Imber Lane.

Jake Robinson and Ricky Modeste goals were not enough to ensure victory in the end.

With Dulwich Hamlet’s match postponed, Billericay had a chance to move clear at the top and they started well with Robinson and Jamie O’Hara sending half chances at goal albeit without testing goalkeeper Luke Williams.

But Met Police took an eighth minute lead when the ball dropped to Jay Gasson and he thrashed sweetly past Alan Julian.

However, that lead lasted all of 60 seconds as Robinson raced through and flicked deftly past Williams.

The 45 goal man then fired wide after neat link up with strike partner Adam Cunnington, and Robbie Evans was well kept out by Williams.

Billericay were well on top and Robinson thought he had put Town ahead after he found the net once again, but the assistant referee’s flag halted celebrations.

But play-off chasing Met were continuing to pose a threat – Rob Swaine sending an attempted clearance off his own crossbar on the half hour.

And Town turned the match on its head eight minutes before the break. Will Salmon lost possession in defence and Modeste was left with the easy task of finishing into an empty net.

The offside flag again prevented Robinson from adding to his goal tally with Town ending the half on top.

Julian was needed to make a superb save up the other end midway through the second period but Met were to get their goal – Jonathan Wright sliding home from close range.

Substitute Sam Deering hit the post in the final stages but it wasn't to be.
