STEVE Tilson admits he is proud to have led C&K Basildon Ladies to the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division summit for the first time in the club’s history.

A Jay Blackie strike, along with an Angela Addison brace, allowed C&K Basildon to secure a 3-1 win at QPR and leapfrog Charlton Athletic into top spot.

And Tilson was full of praise for his side after they had to recover from a one-goal deficit before claiming all three points for the second consecutive game.

Tilson said: “It feels great to have led C&K Basildon to the top of the league for the first time in the club’s history.

“There is no doubt about the fact that we are overachieving, but the girls have been fantastic.

“We are a point ahead of Charlton now and I know some of the teams below us have games in hand, but I would much rather have the points on the board already.

“The table can change very quickly and we have seven league games left, with some very difficult ones coming up.

“But we will take each game as it comes and if we can keep chalking the games off and getting the wins, it puts pressure on those chasing us.”

A hail storm interrupted proceedings at QPR and, after a delayed start, the hosts went ahead inside four minutes.

The players were then asked to leave the field due to the testing conditions, but C&K Basildon equalised soon after returning to the pitch.

Blackie coolly slotted home an Addison pass to get the visitors back on level terms.

A Zoe Rushen effort was pushed onto the post by the QPR goalkeeper just before the break, but the game was turned on its head when Addison found the back of the net on 69 minutes.

And Addison latched onto a looping pass from Rushen six minutes later to net her 18th goal of an impressive campaign.

As a result, C&K Basildon go into the Essex County Cup semi-final tie with Little Thurrock Dynamos having notched eight league wins in a row.

And Tilson is aiming to book a place in the final.

The former Southend United boss added: “We have got a nice break from the league this weekend, when we turn our attentions to the Essex County Cup.

“We’ll be the favourites against Little Thurrock Dynamos, but we need to make sure the attitude is right if we want to progress.

“We set our stall out at the start of the season to finish in the top six in the league and win the Essex County Cup.

“We’ll finish sixth in the league if we have a disastrous end to the season, so we should do better than that target.

“I know that the chairman (Peter King) would love to win the Essex County Cup because then we would have won it five times and that would equal the record.”
