ROCHFORD Hundred’s first team coach Michael Guess was full of smiles after seeing his table-topping side trounce Romford & Gidea Park 103-7 at Magnolia Road.

The victory was unbeaten Rochford’s 17th London Two North East win in succession.

And Guess was thrilled to have secured another emphatic win.

“The win on Saturday was a great result for us in a few ways,” said Guess.

“The first was that we put some wrongs right from the game at Woodford, which probably wasn’t our best performance but we still ground out the win which at the end of the day was all that mattered.

“Secondly, we managed to get 100 points on the board, which as a club I’m not sure how long or even if that’s been done before so it was great for the club and all the supporters on Saturday to see it happen.

“Thirdly, there was some great individual and team tries out there.

“There was a few moments of sloppiness, but nothing too major to worry about.”

Rochford - who are 12 points clear at the top of the table - bagged 17 tries in the victory.

And Guess was happy to see the fit-again Danny Cleare playing a part in the win.

“It was great to see Beero out there,” said Guess.

“Having him coaching and working on the attack has been outstanding for us, but you could see he really wanted to get back out there playing.

“It’s always great to see a player of Beero’s class out there, even if he might not be back to full speed yet.

“But he is a Rochford boy and he got a bit of a big cheer when he went over for his first try, so you can see what it meant to everyone seeing him back out there as well.”

Rochford’s top try scorer Mark Billings again led the way with five tries, while winger Mitchell Bennett scored three.

David Rufai, Ben Johnson and Danny Cleare bagged two each, while Tom Ashton, Sam Edwards and Sam Fombo also touched down, with Ashton adding nine conversions to pile more misery on Romford.
