STUART Bingham suffered a second round exit from the World Grand Prix after falling to defeat against Anthony McGill.

The Bowers Gifford-based professional snooker player, who returned from a ban at the Snooker Shoot-Out, defeated Mark Williams to book a clash with McGill.

But the Scotsman notched a 4-1 win over Bingham, who will now turn his attentions to retaining his Welsh Open crown as the competition gets underway on Monday.

McGill claimed the first frame despite Bingham running him close.

But Bingham got back on level terms by securing the second frame at the Guild Hall in Preston.

However, McGill gained the upper-hand once again by moving into a 2-1 lead.

A mistake from Bingham, in trying to pot the yellow, allowed McGill to move into a commanding lead in the fourth frame.

And while McGill failed to clean up the remaining balls on the table, Bingham conceded the frame to put McGill in a commanding position.

McGill then recorded a 4-1 triumph by taking the fifth frame, with Bingham and the Scotsman now winning two matches apiece when they have gone head-to-head.

While McGill will now face China’s Ding Junhui today - after he beat Mark Joyce 4-1 - in the quarter-finals, Bingham will be looking towards winning the Welsh Open for a second consecutive year.

Bingham defeated Judd Trump 9-8 to take the title in Cardiff 12 months ago.
