There are two games that really stick out for me.

Bizarrely, one was only a pre-season friendly.

It was July 2002, I was playing for Margate in the Conference at the time and we were playing Southend United, where I played in the late 1980s.

Quite a few of my mates came to the game in Kent and it was a good occasion. I remember Southend had Rob Newman, Steve Tilson and Danny Webb in their team so it was a strong side.

A lot of my mates were in the Blues end and it is a day I remember as we won 3-2 and I scored the winning goal with a header with about two minutes to go.

It was pre-season, but it was right before the start of the new season so it was important to end pre-season well and I remember their supporters saying ‘well done Iain’ after the game.

The other one was Great Wakering against Chatham at the end of the 2004/05 season.

It was my first year as manager and I took over with 10 games to go. We needed to beat Chatham to stay up and it was a real battle.

The team played so well and Danny Scopes got the header that kept us up in the end.

After the match, there were grown men crying and it was crazy. I remember even Dave Patient had a tear in his eye and it was a really good day for us all.

I was player/manager at the time, so it was extra special. People had written us off but we had a good last five games and we managed to do it.

After that, we never finished below halfway in the (former) Ryman North until I left.

We are doing well this season at the moment and it would be great to achieve promotion and bounce straight back following relegation last season.

If we can do that it would be a great achievement with such a small squad.

The players have been outstanding and, no matter what, they have done themselves proud.
