TALENTED fly-half Matt Needham will be hoping to show Rochford Hundred are a cut above the rest this weekend.

The unbeaten London Two North East leaders head to Harlow looking to secure a 19th successive league victory.

And 18-year-old Needham will be fit to figure despite suffering a nasty cut to his head in last weekend’s 39-3 win against Old Cooperians.

“I suffered a kick to the head which opened up a cut in my head but since then its been stapled and I’m able to play this Saturday so I’m looking forward to it,” said Needham.

“Like all the other teams we play, we’re expecting Harlow to come out to try and put in a performance against us because we’re top of the table.

“But with the form we’re in and the results we’ve had we’re full of confidence.”

Rochford have yet to lose in the league this season and head into tomorrow’s clash sitting 12 points clear at the top of the table with just four games to go.

Two more wins will make sure of the title for Rochford.

And Needham is keen to help ensure Hundred - who have now scored more than 1,000 points this season - end their stunning campaign with their unbeaten record intact.

“One of our main goals is to win our league unbeaten, which was one of our targets set out from the beginning,” said the former FitzWimarc School pupil.

“But we also want to continuously keep on improving and we always want to be better than we were before, so that’s another target.”

Rochford will again be strong favourites this weekend as they face a Harlow side who are fifth in the standings with half the number of points as Hundred.

And Rochford go into the game having bounced back from their first defeat of the season, which saw them knocked out of the RFU Intermediate Cup by Camberley.

“We knew we had to bounce back from the defeat against Camberley and the Old Cooperians game was a perfect opportunity to show that,” said Needham.

“It was a scrappy game but we had to fight our way through and we showed some good character on several occasions to work back and prevent them from scoring.”

That helped Rochford secure another triumph and Needham is relishing his part in the team’s ongoing success.

“It’s been a great experience for me playing my first season of men’s rugby, especially within an experienced team where I have been able to develop my skills,” he added.
