COLCHESTER Swimming Club squad members claimed more than 200 medals between them at the Robin Deal Memorial Meet, in Sudbury.

They competed against swimmers from Braintree, Co Cambridge, Felixstow, Hadleigh, Leiston, Sudbury and West Suffolk, at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre.

The following swimmers all won five gold medals or more: Lucy Morgan (ten gold), Ciara Wookey (nine gold and three silver), Alfie Francis (eight gold and two silver), Massimo Girolami (seven gold and one silver), Jamie Coles (seven gold), Zak Troman (six gold), Sophie Baker (five gold, one silver and one bronze) and Rebecca Girolami (five gold and two silver).

Colchester SC coach Katie Holmes said: “The club had a sensational weekend winning a total of 223 medals (98 gold, 71 silver and 54 bronze).

"The confidence that the swimmers have gained from their recent success at the Essex Championships is clearly evident and the hunger and determination to make the qualification times again this year is shining through.”

The weekend started superbly for Colchester, with a one-two-three in the boys’ ten-year old age group 400m Individual Medley.

Zak Troman won gold in a new personal best (PB) of more than 30 seconds, with Isaac Farrugia and Jack McCarthy taking silver and bronze.

The event proved to be hugely successful for Colchester, with Charlie Pryke (12) and Kai Cheng (13) claiming gold in the next two races.

In the 50m breaststroke, Jack McCarthy won gold in the ten-year-old category with silver going to Joshua Bleck and bronze to Isaac Farrugia.

There was a one-two-three for Charlie Pryke, Antonio Girolami and Felix Szpakowski, in the 12-year-old category.

In the 400m IM, Abbie McCarthy was victorious in the 15/16 age group, with Ana Victoria Anderson second and Annie Bayliss finishing third.

Rebecca Girolami claimed 200m IM gold, while Bronte Jordan won silver and Ana Victoria Anderson the bronze.

Abbie McCarthy secured 50m butterfly gold, with Niamh Higgins and Rebecca Girolami taking second and third place respectively.

In the 15/16 age boys' 100m backstroke, Jamie Coles, Christopher Ashdown and Luke Ledwidge claimed a one-two-three.

Ciara Wookey won gold in the 200m butterfly, ahead of Georgia Bleck (silver and 17-second PB) and Lottie Talbot (bronze) in the 13-year age group.

In the 50m butterfly boys' 13-year-age group, Alfie Francis finished ahead of Saif Rahman and Mark Milburn (two-second PB).
