Great Wakering Rovers can take another step towards Essex Senior League promotion with victory against Burnham Ramblers tomorrow.

Rovers have been the team to catch for much of the last two months and they defeated Tower Hamlets 2-0 on Wednesday ahead of the final three week run-in.

Iain O’Connell’s men sit top, a point ahead of Redbridge and five clear of FC Romania with just six matches remaining.

And he is not underestimating the size of the challenge.

“Burnham are fighting relegation so they are a dangerous opponent,” said O’Connell. “But we will treat them with respect and prepare in the right way.

“The win against Tower Hamlets was very pleasing. It wasn’t a pretty game but we dug in and got the job done.”

Basildon United have slumped to back-to-back losses and know victory against Redbridge is required if they are to stand any realistic chance of going up this term.

Now 11 points behind Wakering, the Bees were beaten 3-0 at home by Waltham Forest on Tuesday.

Jamie Selby-Knight, Tommy Barton, Joe Skeels and Matt Brinklow are all expected to return for Basildon.

Hullbridge Sports face Enfield 1893 as they look to maintain their excellent recent form and secure their place in the division ahead of next season.

Sports have won their last three matches, scoring 11 goals in that time, including excellent victories against Basildon United and Tower Hamlets.

“Consistency is massively important for us and even more so considering the position we are in,” said manager Darren Manning.

Sports are without Shawn Coe, Michael Salako, Conor Mead and Eamon Payne.

Southend Manor welcome Woodford Town as their attempts to remain in the league continues.

Manor were beaten 3-2 against Hackney Wick on Tuesday.

Mohamed Kargbo is out but John-Joe Slater returns in a boost for Manor.
