DANNY Barnes is keen to help London Three Essex champions Basildon end their season on a high.

Basildon were presented with the league winning trophy following their final home game of the season against Maldon last weekend.

But Barnes is still determined to end the campaign on a high by beating bottom of the table Mavericks tomorrow.

“The motivation will be the same in the last game because we want to finish on a high,” said Barnes.

“The season is not fully over until all games are played by all of the teams so we haven’t finished yet.”

Basildon are currently nine points clear at the top of the table with tomorrow’s clash their game in hand.

But Barnes believes Mavericks will be tough opposition despite their lowly league placing.

“I am expecting a tough game because Mavericks will also want to finish on a high and get as many points as possible to finish the season,” said Barnes.

“We’re on a high though and last Saturday was one of my proudest moments at the club.

“I have been at the club for seven years and have never felt a feeling like it.

“To score two tries on the day was a great feeling too and it would be great to make tomorrow an enjoyable game too.”

But, whatever happens, Basildon will always remember this season with great fondness.

And Barnes is proud of what has been achieved.

“Everyone has worked really hard and I think it shows you get out what you put in,” added the 18-year-old.
