CHRIS Powell wants his Southend United side to go this distance this season - just like he will be aiming to achieve in the London Marathon on Sunday.

Powell will be tackling the 26.2 mile course across the capital this weekend.

But, for now, the 48-year-old is purely focusing on tomorrow’s League One clash against MK Dons at Roots Hall.

“My main priority is 3pm on Saturday, MK Dons and getting the result we need,” said Powell.

“I don’t want us drifting between now and the end of the season and I don’t want us limping across the line either.

“We have four very important games remaining, starting with tomorrow and I want everyone to play well to put me in a good mood for the marathon

Powell will be taking on the daunting challenge to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

And the Blues boss is doing all he can to remain in top shape.

“I’ve kept away from training with the boys this week because I didn’t want to risk getting injured,” said Powell.

“I’ve got a couple of niggles and I haven’t run for quite a few days but you just get on with it and I’m just seeing it as conserving energy.

“Hopefully the sun won’t be too much but I can’t wait until it’s over now.

“That can all wait for Sunday though because right now all that’s in my head is MK Dons.”
