SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell has yet to decide who will replace the injured Ben Coker against MK Dons tomorrow.

Coker will miss the clash at Roots Hall with a hamstring problem sustained at Oxford United last weekend.

And Powell believes he has three possible replacements on the left hand side of his defence.

“It’s a blow to be missing Ben but we have other players who can fill in there and it gives them an opportunity now,” said the Blues boss.

“Jason Demetriou went over to that side when Ben got injured at the weekend and Elvis (Bwomono) could play there too.

“We have options there and Harry Kyprianou is another one.

“He was involved at the start of the season but has found it tough to get into the 18 just recently.

“He’s back in focus now though and we’ve played him at left-back in the under 23s in the past few weeks to get him used to that role again.”

Kyprianou has featured mostly at centre-back when called upon this season while Demetriou and Bwomono are more comfortable on the right hand side of the back four.

However, Powell is short of left-sided options and is unable to call Stephen Hendrie back from his loan spell at Scottish Premier League side Motherwell.

“Once you go on loan that’s it, you’re gone,” explained Powell.

“There’s no wriggle room to bring Stephen back and we won’t see him until pre-season now.”

Powell must therefore look elsewhere this weekend as the Shrimpers come face to face with an MK Dons side struggling to stay up.

The Dons are currently second from bottom in the League One standings.

But Powell insists he is only focusing on his own team.

“We don’t have to worry about MK Dons or what they need because it’s nothing to do with us,” said Powell.

“We have our own situation to deal with and I want us to respond from the disappointment of last weekend’s game at Oxford.”

Blues will be without Michael Turner (thigh) this weekend with Anton Ferdinand expected to replace him at centre-back.

Midfielder Sam Mantom is rated 50/50 with a thigh problem.
