SAMMY Moore says he plans to take Concord Rangers ‘to the next level’ after taking over as manager.

The former AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the National League South club.

It follows an excellent first year in management with Leatherhead, who play in the Isthmian Premier League, in which the Tanners finished sixth, reached the second round of the FA Cup and also finished as runners-up in the Surrey Senior Cup.

And Moore, 30, says he has similar aspirations with Concord following his appointment.

“I am delighted to be here,” said Moore. “I knew last week there was interest from a number of clubs but I really liked the ambition of the chairman [Antony Smith].

“The success the Cowley brothers [Danny and Nicky] have had here proves there is a foundation to progress.

“There were raised eyebrows when I joined Leatherhead but the contacts I have mean I back myself.

“The club wanted to stay above the relegation zone and I want to push this team to the play-offs.

“This is a massive step in our lives and one we are excited about.”

Moore makes the step along with former Southend United striker Jack Midson, who will be assistant manager at the Beach Boys.

And Moore adds he is excited at the prospect of bringing in some new faces ahead of the start of next season and he will be using his professional contacts to force through some deals.

“We have a greater catchment area to tap into here,” said Moore. “I have links with Ipswich and other professional clubs.

“But we will assess the squad first and bring in our own backroom staff and make decisions from there.

“Concord can push on and I intend to help them reach the next level. The league will be very tough next year.

“The club thought this was the the time for fresh blood and I want to boost attendances too.

“I will work day and night to make it successful.”

Chairman Antony Smith added: “On speaking to them both, it very quickly became apparent that I was sitting with the new management that will embark on a new era for the club.

“The few people that have been involved in the appointments are already talking and putting plans in place for some exciting new projects within the club, this is the lift and in vigour that we need at Concord Rangers.”
