GYMNAST Danny Crouch has enjoyed an international debut to remember.

The 12-year-old, from Rayleigh, was the youngest competitor at the International Junior Team Cup in Berlin.

But that did not stop Danny securing more success.

The British under 14 champion won gold in the all around final before also finishing first on the pommel horse and the floor.

Adding to that, Danny came second on the high bar before taking fourth on the rings and fifth in the parallel bars.

And his mother Louise was quick to express her pride at Danny’s latest success.

“It was a great experience for Danny and he did really well in the competitions too,” said Louise.

“He went in a team of four for Great Britian which included two under 18s and one from the under 16s as well as Danny.

“They finished fifth overall.

“But because Danny is not 13 until August they had to get permission for him to be able to take part and the age-group rules changed a little bit.

“He was competing in the under 14s and we’re so proud of what he has achieved.”

Danny - who attends the FitzWimarc School - trains six days a week at the very highly regarded South Essex Gymnastics Club where double Olympic champion Max Whitlock also hones his skills.

Danny trains close to 30 hours a week but does not get carried away by his achievements.

“Danny just takes everything in his stride,” said Louise.

“I think that is down to where he trains because everyone there is so successful.

“It’s very much a case of success breeding more success and as soon as one competition is over he looks forward to the next.

“When he became British Champion he set himself the target of competing in an international competition which he’s done.

“He’s not blase about it but he stays very level headed about it all and just continues to look forward.”

Danny is coached at the South Essex Gymnastics Club by Anthony Wise.

And the youngster would love to keep on securing more success for the club which is also home to Olympians Brinn Bevan and Amy Tinkler.

“Danny’s dream is to go on and compete at the very top as a senior gymnast,” added Louise.

“He’s very determined and also works very hard along with his coach to get results like he got in Berlin.”
