SOUTHEND United midfielder Dru Yearwood has been handed an England under-18 call-up.
The Shrimpers starlet will be heading to China for games against the host nation, Uruguay and Hungary.
And Yearwood was shocked to be selected.
“I never thought an England call up would be possible,” said the 18-year-old.
“Usually it’s the boys at Arsenal and Chelsea that get picked not Southend so it’s good that those in League One and League Two can also play for England.
“It’s the icing on the cake for me after a good season and I’m happy to be recognised.
“I couldn’t have asked for much more, other than getting a goal!”
Yearwood came through the youth ranks at Roots Hall and made 28 appearances for the first team this term.
The midfielder produced a number of impressive performances and was also voted the Shrimpers’ Young Player of the Year.
