SOUTHEND & EMT will be hoping for a less frustrating afternoon when they head to Chingford for their second Premier Division clash of the season tomorrow.

Southend endured a rain affected opening day against Brentwood last weekend.

And skipper Tom Phillippe is keen for his side to get more of an opportunity to impress.

“Last weekend was a frustrating way for us to start the league season really,” said Phillippe.

“It was always going to be a tough game because we were playing Brentwood who are real title contenders.

“But the main frustration was the weather.

“We were on and off because of the rain and it’s not ideal because in the first game of the season you want to be out there showing what you can do.

“We never really got that opportunity on Saturday but hopefully we will tomorrow.”

Southend’s efforts saw their tally rise to minus 20, caused by an administrative error before the season had got underway.

But Phillippe felt his side were still able to take plenty from the drawn encounter.

“We learnt lots and we definitely learnt there is plenty of room for improvement,” said Phillippe, who is is in his first season as captain.

“The more we play together the better and stronger we will become.

“But every game is tough in this league and it will be the same tomorrow.”
