JOE Pigott insists he still gets goosebumps from his memorable last gasp goal at Wembley.

Three years ago today, Pigott netted an injury time equaliser to help Southend United see off Wycombe Wanderers in a dramatic League Two play-off final.

And Pigott - who now plays for AFC Wimbledon - will never forget his part in one of the most memorable moments in the Shrimpers’ history.

“Those three years have flown by but of course I still remember it and it’s easily the best moment I’ve ever had,” said Pigott.

“The final is still on my Sky Plus and I’ve seen all the clips on YouTube.

“They still give me goosebumps when I watch them.”

Pigott’s well-taken goal took the tie to penalties where the Shrimpers triumphed 7-6.

But the magnitude of the match took a while to sink in for Pigott.

“At the time I don’t think I really took it all in and it was only after a little while that I only really realised how much it all meant to everyone,” said Pigott.

“On the day, you’re focusing on the game but when I look back now it’s a moment I’m always going to be proud of.”

However, the goal itself went in slow motion for Pigott.

“I remember Westy (Myles Weston) crossing it and ‘big bad’ Barry Corr headed it down to me,” said Pigott.

“I took what was quite a good touch and then struck the ball well with my left foot.

“I knew as soon as I hit it that it had a good chance of going in but it seemed to go in slow motion before it nestled in the net.”
