SOUTHEND United midfielder Dru Yearwood is fighting to be fit for the start of pre-season.

The 18-year-old suffered a hamstring injury on the final day of the campaign against Bristol Rovers.

And, after having to drop out of the England under 18 squad, Yearwood hopes to be able to join in with the rest of the Shrimpers squad from July.

“I’m working hard to try and make the start of pre-season and I think it’s achievable,” said Yearwood.

“I’m progressing quite nicely at the moment and it’s not as painful as it was which is good news.

“The second scan I had showed I had a grade two tear rather than a grade four which means less time out.

“But pre-season will soon be here and I hope to be fit.”
