SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin feels the Shrimpers have offered Mark Oxley the best contract for a goalkeeper in League One.
Oxley was voted Blues player of the year last season after a number of impressive displays between the sticks.
And Martin insists the club are doing all they can to keep hold of the 27-year-old.
“We’ve made Mark an offer which I think is the best a goalkeeper will get in League One,” said Martin.
“His agent has acknowledged it’s a good offer and we remain in talks.
“But I’m still hopeful at this stage.”
Oxley’s current deal expires this summer and the shot-stopper has been linked with a move to Championship club Millwall.
