BILLERICAY captain Lee Knight was buoyed by his side’s draw against Chelmsford.

Billericay took 12 points from the Premier Division clash after restricting Chelmsford to 190/8 when chasing 231.

And Knight was happy with Billericay’s display.

“We did well to turn the game in both innings and we almost pinched a win in the end,” said Knight.

“With the bat we found ourselves 100/7 before recovering strongly to score 231 and we turned it around with the ball as well.

“Chelmsford were 100/1 at one stage and we were staring down the barrel a bit at that point.

“But we took a flurry of wickets and just a couple more would have seen us get the win.”

Billericay made 231/7 in their innings with Ross Poulton - who batted at number seven - top scoring with 76 not out from 74 balls.

Number nine Rob Lee added 55 not out with the duo enjoying a century partnership as Billericay bounced back from a difficult start.

Darren Ironside had earlier scored 34 while Andy Wright was the only other batsman to reach double figures (19) as Chelmsford posed problems with the ball.

Mark Drain took 3-47 before Chelmsford recovered from 0/1 to 113/2 in their own innings.

At that stage, Chelmsford seemed set for victory before Billericay fought back and forced the draw.

As a result, Chelmsford ended on 190/8 with Robert Rayner taking three wickets for 32 runs.

Poulton took 3-32 while Essex’s Paul Walter confirmed his return for fitness as he took 2-40.
