SOUTHEND United are keen on signing former Ipswich Town midfielder Luke Hyam, Echosport understands.
Hyam was released by the Tractor Boys at the end of last season having spent 15 years at Portman Road.
And he is now wanted by Blues boss Chris Powell.
The 26-year-old came through the youth system at Ipswich and made 146 first team appearances before his departure.
The Shrimpers are keen to bring in a new midfielder after opting not to offer new contracts to Anthony Wordsworth, Michael Timlin and Josh Wright.
