MARK Oxley has signed a new three year deal with Southend United.

The Shrimpers shot-stopper - who was voted player of the year last season - had been linked with a move away from Roots Hall this summer.

But the custodian has now committed his future to the club.

Oxley said: “I’ve been in talks for a while now and I’m just delighted to get it all done.

“It’s never nice being out of contract as a player but when you’ve got a bit of interest and the club wants to sign you it’s a good position to be in, and luckily the chairman has looked after me here.

“I’ve got three years to look forward to, to kick on from last year and hopefully push on as a club.

“I get on well with the gaffer and ever since he’s come in he’s been a breath of fresh air.

"What he’s brought in will give us a great chance this year and going forward this is a club that wants to succeed.”
