BILLERICAY secured their first victory of the Premier Division season, beating Shenfield by 61 runs.

Billericay were bowled out for 246 before dismissing their visitors for 185.

And Billericay skipper Lee Knight - who led his side to promotion from Division One last term - was delighted with the win

“Obviously we are very happy to get our first win on the board,” said Knight.

“Shenfield are a strong side and have an excellent pace attack in the form of Aaron Beard and Jack Plom.

“But I was particularly pleased with how our opening pair Aaron Curtis and Saurav Prabhakar set about laying the foundation on a green pitch in overcast conditions.

“They did a fantastic job up top putting on 75 for the first wicket and with the rest of our order chipping in we managed to get to a competitive 240.”

Curtis top scored with 54 while Darren Ironside added 37 and Knight 30.

In reply, Shenfield made 185 with Paul Walter, Adam Marchant and Ross Poulton all taking three wickets to secure a memorable win for Billericay.

“Shenfield had a tricky period of around 30 minutes to bat just before tea,” said Knight.

“Adam was superb with the new ball.

“He was well supported by Paul and we managed to pick up three crucial wickets before the break.

“After tea the boys continued in the same vein and at 23-5 we were in the box seat.

“There were a few frustrating partnerships lower down the order and for a while it looked like the last pair might cling on but with a few overs to spare Paul came back on to claim the all important wicket and wrap up the win.”
