DANNY Heale has continued to apply the finishing touches to his Canvey Island squad after signing goalkeeper Harry Palmer.

Palmer, 22, joins the Isthmian North outfit having played for a host of clubs including Brightlingsea Regent, Braintree Town and AFC Hornchurch.

And Heale says he is confident Palmer will be a good addition to the squad.

“Harry is someone I have known for a little while and I am pleased to have got this deal over the line,” he said.

“Last season we played Tilbury in a friendly and I had just signed Ashlee Jones as cover. But John Coventry [East Thurrock United manager] was faced with a bit of an emergency so I lent them Ashlee for the day and he gave me Harry.

“We have stayed in touch and now we have made this happen.

“We still have Conor Gough, but he has been out for a while with his knee injury so we needed another keeper.”

Heale says Palmer is currently training with the Southend United first team.

He was also between the posts for Lewes against Canvey when the Gulls emerged 5-2 victors in February 2016.

Heale says he is looking to sign one more centre half and added there will be a triaist game at the end of the month before Canvey get their pre-season campaign underway.
