HARRY Lennon has completed a move to Southend United.

The 23-year-old centre-back joins the Shrimpers from Charlton Athletic.

And Lennon is pleased to have signed a three year contract at Roots Hall.

"I'm really happy to be signing,” said Lennon.

“It's all happened really quickly but I'm just looking forward to getting started, meeting the lads and getting settled in."

Lennon came through the youth ranks at Charlton and was handed his Addicks debut by Chris Powell.

And the defender is looking forward to being reunited with his former manager.

"It's been about four years since I was given my debut and I've not seen Chris in a while but he's a good manager and is very respected in the game,” said Lennon.

"He was the one that spoke to me and it was a big reason why I wanted to join and I can't wait to be working under him again."

Lennon – who has also spent time on loan with Cambridge United and Gillingham – made 40 appearances for Charlton.

And boss Powell is thrilled to have brought him to Blues.

"I'm really pleased to bring harry to the club,” said Powell.

“I've kept my eye on him for a number of years and he has the attributes and attitude to be a top player.

"He will give us good competition in the centre back area.

“He has pace, he is left-footed and can handle the ball well which will give us balance in defence."
