SAM Mantom has returned to Southend United on a permanent basis.
The composed, who ended last season on loan with the Shrimpers from Scunthorpe United, has signed a two year deal at Roots Hall.
And the 26-year-old is thrilled to be back with Blues.
“I'm delighted to have signed,” said Mantom.
“It's been going on for a couple of weeks now but at first I thought I was going back to Scunthorpe.
“But Chris Powell was on the phone to my agent and things have progressed pretty nicely.”
Mantom made seven appearances while with the Shrimpers last term.
And it was that loan spell which made the midfielder want to come back.
"Being here last season helped and when the manager shows the desire to bring you back to the club it was a no-brainer for me,” said Mantom.
“Being back in this changing room I hope good things will come."
Mantom will now also be teaming up with his former Scunthorpe United team-mate Tom Hopper with the Shrimpers.
And Mantom feels Hopper will be a big hit with Blues.
"Hops is a good guy and he is some player,” said Mantom.
“He does a lot of work that you don't see.
“He wins a lot of flick ons and stuff that you appreciate as a player because he will get to a ball that you don't think that he will get to and will continue the momentum of the attack.
“He's a fantastic signing for Southend and I can't wait to play alongside him again.”
Mantom’s deal with Blues includes the option of a further 12 months.
