HARRY Hudson is targeting a successful season with Rochford Hundred after completing a switch to the London One North newcomers.

Hudson has moved to Magnolia Road from Rosslyn Park and is determined to maintain the club’s progress after Hundred secured the London Two North East title last term without dropping a single point.

“I’m excited and pleased to have made the move to Rochford and to help the club enjoy another good season,” said Hudson.

“I work with Chris (Green) and Danny (Cleare) at Seevic so I guess I was always going to make this move and a lot of my friends play at Rochford too, so I’m looking forward to it.

“But I’m not just going there to have a laugh with my mates.

“This is a club with big plans and I want to be a part of them.

“I was travelling for 12 hours a week with Rosslyn Park, so a big part of my decision was being closer to home and I can’t wait to get started.”

Hudson shone for Southend Saxons before making the move to Rosslyn Park, who line up in National League One.

But Hudson has now set his sights on helping Rochford progress through the leagues.

“I don’t think you would find a single player in our squad who would say they would be happy with mid-table,” said Hudson.

“We want promotion and we’ll be working as hard as we can to make that happen.

“We know there are some tough teams in this league but we don’t fear any of them and with the other signings which are in the pipeline we’re confident of doing well.”

Rochford’s season gets underway against Amersham & Chiltern at the start of September.

And Hudson will go into the new campaign skippering the side.

Hudson - who plays in the back row - will take over from Matthew Stewart as captain and Rochford’s director of rugby Chris Green believes he will prove to be a key signing.

“Harry will drive the standards both on and off the pitch and it’s great to have brought him to the club,” said Green.

“We all know what he will bring to the team and he’s going to be captain too.

“Matt Stewart did a great job last season as captain and Harry is the only player I would have made captain instead of him.

“He will be a big player for us and a big character too, so it’s great to have him here.”

And Green also confirmed more big signings would soon be following in Hudson’s footsteps.

“There will be more coming in and it’s an exciting time for us,” he added.
