SOUTHEND United are close to completing a swoop for former Ipswich Town midfielder Luke Hyam.
The 26-year-old - who was released by the Tractor Boys at the end of last season - is believed to have undergone a medical with Blues yesterday.
And Echosport understands the Shrimpers hope to complete the deal within the next 24 hours.
Hyam has spent the last 15 years with Ipswich and made 146 first team appearances at Portman Road before his departure.
The combative midfielder looks set to become the Shrimpers’ sixth signing of the summer and will do battle with Dru Yearwood, Sam Mantom and Timothee Dieng for a place in Chris Powell’s midfield next season.
