LUKE Hyam is targeting an immediate return to the Championship with Southend United.

The hard-working midfielder - who has spent the previous 15 years with Ipswich Town - has completed a switch to the Shrimpers.

But Hyam - who has signed a two-year deal with Blues - does not want to be in League One for long.

“I’ve played my whole career in the Championship, so after dropping down to League One my aim is to get back up there with Southend,” said Hyam, 26.

“But first and foremost I just want to get back playing football because for the last two or three years I haven’t played regularly.”

Hyam is the Shrimpers’ sixth signing of the summer and his deal includes the option of a further 12 months.
