ENGLAND hero Jordan Pickford paid tribute to former Southend United goalkeeper Martyn Margetson following the Three Lions’ dramatic penalty shoot-out win against Colombia.

Pickford superbly denied Carlos Bacca from 12 yards to help England win 4-3 on penalties after the second round clash had ended 1-1 after normal time.

And Pickford was quick to praise the work done by England’s goalkeeping coach Margetson who made 38 appearances for Blues in the late 1990s.

Playing a key role - former Blues goalkeeper Martyn Margetson is now England's goalkeeping coach

“We did our homework on the penalty takers with Marge (Margetson) and it was only Falcao who changed the way he normally goes,” said Pickford.

“It’s all about being there in the moment making the save and I did.”

Pickford’s heroics helped England end their penalty shoot-out hoodoo and reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Gareth Southgate’s side will now face Sweden in the final eight on Saturday.
