BILLERICAY skipper Lee Knight was left ruing his side’s poor batting following a 58 run defeat against Chingford.

Billericay were dismissed for just 91 in reply to Chingford’s 149 on Saturday.

And that left Knight feeling frustrated at the end of the Premier Division clash.

“I was actually pretty happy with the bowling display we produced,” said Knight.

“There were probably a few too many extras for my liking, but we were pleased to get them out for 149.

“But our batting never really started unfortunately.

“We lost wickets at regular intervals.

“Some of them were tame dismissals and we didn’t deserve to win the game if I’m honest about it.

“Hopefully we can put in a better performance away at Hornchurch this weekend.”

Chingford batted first, with highly-rated Essex youngster Daniel Lawrence opening the batting.

Lawrence top scored for Chingford with 33, while Alexander Maskell was the second highest scorer with 23.

However, Billericay conceded 42 extras during the innings to bolster Chingford’s score.

Ross Poulton was the pick of Billericay’s bowlers as he took three wickets for just 12 runs.

Robert Rayner took 3-20, while Paul Walter - another Essex player - took 2-53.

But, in reply, Billericay struggled badly with the bat and were bowled out for just 91.

Both of their openers - Saurav Prabhakar and Aaron Curtis were dismissed without scoring.

Batting at number three, Walter top scored for Billericay with 22 runs, while David Houghton was the second highest scorer with 18.

As a result, third-placed Chingford were able to come out on top, with Peter McDermott doing the most damage with the ball.

He took five wickets for just 19 runs, while Lawrence and Essex team-mate Matthew Quinn took one wicket each.

Billericay took just four points from the defeat and sit seventh in the Premier Division, 10 points ahead of the relegation zone.

Billericay - who were promoted from Division One last season - will now be hoping to get back to winning ways when they head to Hornchurch this weekend.

Hornchurch are currently fourth in the Premier Division standings and beat Wanstead & Snaresbrook by four wickets at the weekend.

Saturday’s clash will also see the Premier Division reach the halfway point of the 18 game season.
