MMA star Dean Stevens is hoping for a double celebration this weekend.

The unbeaten 28-year-old faces Chris Jarvis in the latest UWC fight night at Talk Nightclub on Saturday.

And the keen football fan is hoping he will succeed in the cage just hours after England’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Sweden.

“The perfect scenario would be for me and England to both get wins,” said Stevens.

“If England win their game I’ll have ‘Football’s Coming Home’ as my entrance music, which would be great.

“But my main focus will be on my fight and making sure I win it.”

Stevens, who is from Rayleigh, has won all seven of his previous fights and is keen to keep the fine run going on Saturday night.

“The guy I’m fighting has already put a video on my Facebook saying how he’s going to knock me out, so it should be interesting,” said Stevens.

“He’s a good fighter and I’m looking forward to getting in there again.

“I actually hope I’m tested more than my last fight, which was quite straightforward, but training has been going well and I’m feeling confident.”

However, Stevens has had to fit his training in around his day job as a doorman.

“It’s been tough because work has been really busy because of the World Cup, but I’ve trained at every possible opportunity,” said Stevens.

“I’m in good shape and I’m looking forward to showing that on Saturday.

“There’s always a great atmosphere at these UWC fight nights and I’m sure it’s going to be the same this weekend.”

Stevens’ fight is one of 12 battles taking place on the night and promoter Dan Burzotta - who also helps train a number of the fighters at the TSG gym in Westcliff - is excited by what lies in store.

“It’s going to be another great night,” said Burzotta.

“We have people coming down from all over the UK and we have a good mixture of fighters, so I think there’s going to be a bit of everything.

“Ticket sales have gone well too, so there is a lot to look forward to.

“The guys I train have been working tirelessly and sweating it out in the hot weather to get in the best possible shape.

“They are fired up and lots of people are planning to come down after the football has finished so we’re expecting a good crowd.”

Doors open at Talk Nightclub at 6pm on Saturday with the first fight due to get underway at 7pm.
