ECHOSPORT talks to Blues fans Simon Parry, Joey Hayles and Alfie Robinson about Chris Powell’s side’s start to the season.

The Shrimpers kicked off the new League One campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Doncaster Rovers at Roots Hall on Saturday.

And the trio of supporters have varying views on how the team can bounce back to form, starting with this weekend’s trip to Plymouth Argyle.

What was your take on the game at the weekend?

SP: “We didn’t deserve to lose overall but the shambolic 20 minute spell in the second half was extremely worrying. We need to take our chances.”

JH: “The first half was brilliant defensively and going forward. In the second half we switched off for 20 minutes and paid the price.”

AR: “The team appear to be cohesive and communicating well but we seem to be lacking the bite that enables us to convert our chances. We could have easily taken the game within the first 15 minutes.”

How do you feel about things moving forward now?

SP: “I wasn’t overly confident going into this season, to be honest, so this hasn’t changed my view. I think we are a mid-table side at the moment.”

JH: “I think this is an exciting period for the club. With Chris Powell in charge I feel we can really make that next step a reality this season.”

AR: “If we can play like we did before the drinks break, half-time and the last 20 minutes of last Saturday’s game I can see us being a huge threat this season.”

The transfer window closes on Thursday. What signings would you like to see made?

SP: “Much the same as has been mooted; a striker and a wide-man as a minimum. I believe that we need to inject some more pace into the team.”

JH: “I do feel we need at least one or two more players if we can. I am a Norman Wabo fan but maybe one more striker and a pacey midfielder.”

AR: “We need a seasoned striker to insure we can get the clinical finishes that we clearly missed out on over the weekend.”

Would you make any changes to the team against Plymouth?

SP: “I’d be tempted but I would probably stick with the same starting 11 and be prepared to make changes quickly if necessary. Tim Dieng, Theo Robinson and Sam Barratt all looked lively on Saturday.

JH: “I don’t think I’d change too much from Saturday. I really feel Barratt is going to be a great signing so swap him for Stephen McLaughlin maybe.”

AR: “Theo Robinson in for Simon Cox and Tim Dieng in for Michael Kightly. Both seemed to have the hunger to get back into the game and were better in front of goal.”
