THE Echo is to a launch a regular new Southend United podcast.

Titled ‘Have I Got Blues for You’ the show will discuss Shrimpers topics with supporters and will also include interviews with a number of popular past and current players.

The podcast will be presented by Echosport’s Blues reporter Chris Phillips who came up with the idea while training for the London Marathon.

“I’m not the fastest runner so to pass the time on the long runs I was doing I started listening to podcasts and just thought it would be good to try and do one on Southend United,” said Phillips.

“I started trying to find out more about it but I’m not the best with the technical side of things so it’s been great to have got help from a couple of big Blues fans, Rich Meggison and Ross McKinlay who have been brilliant in helping me.

“We recorded the first one this week but because it’s the first one it takes a little while to get clearance before it appears online.

“But once that goes up the plan is to record them as frequently as possible and we hope to get as many fans involved as possible.

“The idea has been well received on Twitter and hopefully it will prove to be a popular addition to our coverage.”

The first podcast includes a lengthy interview with former Southend United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley who was back at Roots Hall with Brentford last night.

The podcast will be available from iTunes and Libsyn and Phillips was keen to thank the sponsors MSPFX and SP Financial Management.

“I can’t thank them enough because without them we wouldn’t have had any of the equipment we needed,” said Phillips.

“None of this would have been possible without them and it’s great what they have done.”
