SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell is hopeful he will soon be adding another loan signing to his squad.

Powell brought Shawn McCoulsky to Roots Hall from Bristol City at the end of last week.

And the Blues boss is now confident he will soon be completing another temporary signing.

"I’m hopeful that if not by this Saturday that by our following game we will have another player in the building," said Powell.

"We’re a little bit light in some areas and we want to make our squad better and give us all a boost."

And Powell also revealed he was keen to bring in another winger to provide cover and competition for Michael Kightly and Stephen McLaughlin.

"Last year we had Michael Kightly and Stephen McLaughlin playing the majority of the games but I had Jermaine McGlashan and Shayon Harrison who could play out there," said Powell.

"I was pushed into having to put Theo Robinson out there on Tuesday.

"We tend to bring on him in that role when we’re looking to win a game and we want an extra striker on the pitch which we’ve done to good effect but ultimately he’s a striker and he wants to play down the middle.

"We don’t have many options right now and I do have to look in that area and see where it takes us."
