GARRY Kimble got his first win as Great Wakering Rovers boss as Felixstowe & Walton United were swept aside.

Stephen Butterworth and Billy Johnson’s first half goals allowed the reigning Essex Senior League champions to notch a 2-0 win at Burroughs Park.

And Kimble was pleased to see his side bounce back from a heavy defeat to Romford on the opening day of the Isthmian North season.

Kimble, who took over as manager following Iain O’Connell’s resignation last month, said: “We thoroughly deserved the result and the boys were excellent.

“The performance was very pleasing because we went into the match with a game plan and the boys stuck to it.

“Felixstowe are a good side and I have no doubt that they will be up there but we played with great energy.

“The clean sheet was one of the biggest positives and it’s great to have got up and running by getting three points in our first home game of the season.

“We were 110 per cent better than we were against Romford in the first game of the season.”

Wakering created numerous chances and could have broken the deadlock inside the opening 30 seconds of the encounter.

But the opening goal came after 11 minutes as Butterworth, who came into the starting line-up following the loss at Romford, found the back of the net.

And the hosts doubled their advantage midway through the first half as Johnson got his name on the scoresheet.

Wakering passed up opportunities to add some gloss to the scoreline but Kimble’s outfit were made to settle for two goals in the first half.

No goals were to follow after the break but Wakering clinched the three points.
