RETAILERS in Billericay High Street are showing their support for the town's largest participation event - the Billericay Striders PBM 10k.

ParaBarMuir estate agents, Secrets Hair and Beauty Salon, Waitrose and Essex & Suffolk Water, are all behind Striders in staging the big road race on Sunday, November 4.

Les Carter, of ParaBarMuir Estates, said: "We are happy to be associated with such a successful event, especially since it is one of the most popular races in Essex".

ParaBarMuir are providing each finisher with a quality souvenir T-shirt, even if you just walk the course!

Secrets Hair and Beauty Salon manager Steve Winder, who helped support the event last year, said his company were proud to continue their involvement.

"It is just great to see so many people enjoying themselves," he said.

"I think the race is good for the Billericay Community and you don't have to be an elite athlete to enter!

"I think we need more community events like this."

Waitrose have promised each runner a banana at the finish line and Essex & Suffolk Water will provide bottled water.

The 10k race (6.2 miles) will start at Hannakins Community Centre at 9.45am.

The scenic route is via Queens Park Avenue out to Ingatestone Road and back via Mountnessing Road.

The finish line is at Brightside School.

There will be a £50 cash prize for breaking the course record (male and female).

Entries are limited to 700 and the race is filling up fast.

If you would like to enter or would like to know more, the Billericay Striders' web site gives full details. You can also download an entry form.

Race director DavQe Sweet said: "Every year we turn late-comers away because the race is full. You really should get training now and enter straight away".

Billericay Striders web site is www.billericaystriders.com.
