SAM Barratt has spoken of his joy after having his contract extended at Southend United.
The 23-year-old joined from non-league Maidenhead United last summer but made just one first team appearance before suffering a cruciate ligament injury when lining up for the under 23s against Stevenage.
And Barratt tweeted his delight after learning he would be staying with the Shrimpers.
“I’m delighted that the club have taken up my contract extension,” said Barratt.
“It’s been a tough first season but can’t wait for when I can finally get back on that pitch at Roots Hall.
“I have even more motivation to get back out there ASAP and I’m coming back stronger.”
