Young runs go for it!

THE first Southend Primary Schools' cross-country league races were held at Shoebury High School with more than 50 children from school years three, four, five and six competing.

The youngsters took part in a mass "warm-up" before running the course.

"It was fantastic to see so many young children taking part and they are looking forward to their next league race on November 22 at the Trinity Playing Fields in Eastern Avenue," said Southend High's Sue Simpson, the league organiser.

Results l Year 3: Boys - 1, C Lockhart (Alleyn Court); 2, M Cox (Crowstone); 3, O Paul (Fairways). Girls - 1, B Lee (Chalkwell); 2, D Hill (St Hilda's); 3, E Richards (Fairways). Team: 1, Fairways l Year 4: Boys - 1, H Smith (Alleyn Court); 2, Cavan (Thorpedene); 3, M Rolings (Thorpe Greenways). Girls - 1, S Ag (Bournes Green); 2, G Pearson (Earls Hall); 3, Z Tidd (Bournes Green). Team: 1, Alleyn Court.

l Year 5: Boys - 1, L Willmore (Alleyn Court); 2, T Pudnevy (Alleyn Court); 3, S Hopson (Crowstone). Girls - 1, L Kidwell (Alleyn Court); 2, I Hoskynstaple (Alleyn Court); 3, R Bowne (Bournes Green). Team: 1, Alleyn Court.

l Year 6: Boys - 1, R Beck (Thorpedene); 2, B Pullen (Crowstone); 3, G Sans (Heycroft). Girls - 1, O Tidd (Bournes Green); 2, H Jones (Bournes Green); 3, A Matthews-Smith (Crowstone). Team: 1, Bournes Green.
