CANVEY Island's Chris Bourne is back from international duty with Guyana - in time to lead the Sunday soccer side he manages to more glory.
Bourne played two friendly matches against Cuba, the highest ranked club in the Caribbean He came on as a 60th minute substitute in a 2-1 win in Linden.
Bourne then made the starting line-up in a 0-0 draw in the second match at the GCC Bourda Club in the capital of Georgetown.
Bourne played very well and both he and fellow Gulls midfielder Clydie Roberts are hoping to make the Guyana squad for their World Cup qualifying campaign which starts in June.
He said: "Lining up in the starting 11 for Guyana was mine and my family's proudest moment in my football career so far.
"Playing football for your country - nothing comes bigger than that."
The club Bourne manages, FC Gulls, was newly-formed this year and his assistant is Craig Durussel.
A former Canvey, Thurrock and White Ensign player, Durussel said: "Chris and I had a vision that we could create a team that would compete and be successful.
"We entered the Sceptre League and, using our connections and ideas, finally formed a squad of players ready for the new season.
"Luckily for us we were able to prise over some top footballers who have played, or still play, a good standard of Saturday soccer."
The team has been a huge success. They are currently unbeaten and top Division Seven and are through to their League Cup final.
At the weekend they beat established Division One side Park Tavern 5-1 in the Colin Tyler Cup to make it through to the last 16 of the competition.
