STEVE Maish enjoyed mixed results when he took on five-times world champion Raymond van Barneveld twice in the space of 24 hours at the PartyPoker.net Dutch Darts Trophy.
In Saturday’s competition, the Southend-based professional defeated Jasper Smidt 3-0 before going down 3-2 to number one seed van Barneveld at the second round stage.
However, the 32nd seed bounced back to record a memorable victory over “Barney” in Sunday’s tournament, coming from 2-1 down to win the final set without conceding a leg.
That victory, which had been preceded by a first round win over Elmer Kralt, earned Maish a place in the last 16 in Leiden.
However, the former mastic applicator could not replicate his form, going down to a 3-0 defeat to Mark Walsh.
Despite that disappointment, Maish picked up a total of £450 in prize money for his efforts and also secured his place at the inaugural Players Championship Finals at Purfleet’s Circus Tavern at the end of January.
