FOR a side not wanting to make any slip ups between now and the end of the season, it was perhaps ironic that Southend United took time out from their charge for a place in the play-offs to have a team meal at the Blue Banana cafe and grill on Southend seafront this week.
But manager Steve Tilson, his backroom staff and the entire first team squad were all in attendance at the cafe’s grand opening and the Blues boss insisted it was a great outing to maintain team spirit.
“It’s always nice to do things like this and the food was great,” said Tilson.
“It was a welcome break for us all and is a good way of keeping up the great spirit we have here.”
The Blue Banana is situated half-way between the pier and Westcliff Casino, and manager Andy Innell was thrilled to see the Shrimpers in attendance.
“It was fantastic to see them and have them down here,” said Innell. “It was perfect for our grand opening and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”
