THERE was plenty of top-class soccer on view in sunny conditions when the two Southend Schools’ Sports Partnerships combined to stage their Champion of Champions extravaganza.

First two games to get the ball rolling were the Group One v Group Two League winners matches for boys (Thorpe Greenways v Fairways) and girls (Chalkwell v Heycroft) respectively.

Heycroft emerged winners of the girls’ event with a star performance from Annabelle D’Arcy, who scored both goals as they won 2-0.

Joshua Perry grabbed the only goal as the boys’ event went to Thorpe Greenways.

For the girls’ league runners-up prize Thorpe Greenways (Group One) took on St Mary’s (Group Two) and won 2-1 thanks to goals from Finch Collier and Hollie Burns. Hannah Malcolm replied.

In the boys’ competition between Group Three winners Heycroft and Group Four champs Crowstone, the former put on a superb display to win 4-0 with two goals apiece from Alfie Jacob and Rob Alabasta.

The successes marked a marvellous soccer year for Heycroft, who have won seven soccer trophies in all.

They had two league (boys and girls), two Champion of Champions (boys and girls), one mixed and one girls’ cup in Southend as well as the girls being Essex FA champions and south-east England FA runners-up.

Organisers paid tribute to Southend Manor FC for use of their facilities art Southchurch Park and to the referees who officiated.
