SOUTHEND United have been forced to call off their pre-season clash at Wivenhoe Town next Wednesday, due to the small size of their squad.
The Shrimpers were due to visit Broad Lane on July 15 to take on the Dragons.
But the match will now not be taking place.
“After due consideration with the current size of the squad we have agreed with Wivenhoe Town to put back our friendly," confirmed assistant manger Paul Brush.
"We will send a side down to play an evening game in the autumn against them instead.
"Some players might now have the option of playing more at Canvey Island next week than the 45 minutes we had planned.
"But we felt on reflection that four games in six days was too much too soon.
"We are very impressed with the attitude and team spirit in pre-season training so far and we will continue our gradual build-up to the start of the season."
